Recognition in Computer Vision: From Descriptors to Meaning

Tugasan, 1,500 patah perkataan, 8 sumber

1. Introduction

Computer vision turns pixels into decisions through a pipeline of stages, from image acquisition to recognition and interpretation (Gonzalez & Woods, 2018).

This essay argues that recognition, the final stage, is only as reliable as the descriptions the earlier stages produce.

2. From segmentation to description

Segmentation divides an image into regions, and description reduces each region to features that a classifier can compare (Gonzalez & Woods, 2018).

Boundary descriptors capture a region's shape, while regional descriptors capture its texture, and the right choice depends on the task (Gonzalez & Woods, 2018).

3. Recognition and interpretation

Recognition assigns a label to each object, and interpretation gives those labels a meaning, as when recognised characters are read as a word (Gonzalez & Woods, 2018).
